The fields and mountains of Pennsylvania |
I have been interested in the environment since I could walk, and I have found that throughout my life, the various geographic locations in which I have lived helped shape my boyhood intrigues into a professional understanding. I was born and raised in three U.S. states: in the meadows and mountains of Pennsylvania, the dry deserts of Arizona, and the sandy beaches of New Jersey. Still in diapers, my mother often found herself jumping in fright at the insects, amphibians, and reptiles I brought into the house, immeasurably fascinated by all of them. As I grew older, my father (a nature enthusiast) educated me on shrub vegetation and tree species, as well as how to hunt and fish, all the while teaching me the benefits all living things provide. It is from my father I learned my life's most valuable lesson: in nature, all things exist for a reason.

When it comes to protecting the environment, I will never forget the event that spurred my heart into action. My older brother, just a child of seven years at the time, was fist fighting a boy twice his age just down the dirt road of our Pennsylvania home. It wasn't because the older boy insulted him, threatened him, or caused any harm to him at all. In fact, the boy didn't even know that my brother existed until he was tackled to the ground by him, shocked that my brother did not also find humor in smashing baby garter snakes to death with heavy stones. My brother did not win the fight, but I was proud of him. My brother knew that he would not win the fight, but his bravery was driven by the humanitarian desire to protect those that could not stand up for themselves. In nature, all things exist for a reason, and it should always remain so.

I have always wanted to find ways to save the environment. Coming to Stockton College was the best decision of my life, and it felt amazing to meet so many other people like myself and my brother who share the same passion about protecting the environment.
I want to do big things, since I was a boy I always have. Aside from the environmental science field, my accomplishments reside in English literature: 5 written and completed novel manuscripts, over 100 written poems (7 of which are published) and over 15 short stories (2 published, 1 a first place prize winner). Though creative writing and composing music is my passion, my dream is to one day work for the EPA, enforcing and perhaps even implementing environmental laws and regulations to protect and (maybe one day) save our environment for good.
